Edgeøya kokketjeneste++ i 10 dager (Edge Island, Chef service++ for 10 days)

So,
here's a few pictures from my last adventure...
I finally got to go on a boat trip too... My job however, was a bit different.
I got to be hired on the boat, "Ulla Rinman", beeing the chef for a group of 10 geologists.
So, its a 35 hour trip from Longyearbyen, going around the south cape of Spitsbergen, which i have never seen, so that was neat and back up the east coast, which i have never seen, so thats pretty neat. Then EdgeIsland, where i actually got to go on land... How neat is that!
Edgeøya is a BIG island of the east coast. It's protected land, so no one is aloud to go on land without the right permissions. We had permission. Or, at least the geologists did. It's home to aprox. 2000 polarbears in the summer (out of 3000 or so in total, that is a lot of bears in one place.)(Only got to see one) and a bunch of walrus' (got to see a bunch).
Also, from the boat i got to see a lot of whales, different kinds.
One overnight sailing i was on bridge duty, (sitting up all night drinking coffee, making sure were not crashing into icebergs or whales or what not...) and i got to see the COOLEST animal I have ever seen. It came up once, so i could see the "steam" coming up as it was breathing, then it came up again just seconds later... Then it went for a deep dive, unveiling it's tale. (that's usually how you can tell what kind of whale it is) (...and by the way it is...) and it completely caught my breath when i saw that it was a BLUE WHALE! AWSOME!!!! only 70-100 meters from the boat.
Anyway, didn't get a picture of it, so i guess you can all call me a liar if you want to...

The boat i was on. (To all norwegians, you can imagine how i was humming this song every time i got to see the boat from a distance... i called it Sandy Hook...)

The sun went under the horizon on the 23rd of august for the first time in a long time, so i spent hours every evening looking at it, wondering what the dark season would bring...

Yeah!

Don't want to have one of these to close to your rubber boat...

I actually got to touch one... Scariest thing i have ever done!!!

An old trapping station... It once housed the trapper simply known as the "Polar Bear King"; Henri Rudi. One of my favourites from the Arctic History. He killed 713 bears and was famous for 2 things while still alive;

1: He once bought 500 litres of beer and rented the hole top floor of a hotel in Tromsø for a month, So that he and he's pet polarbear (!) could have the luxury they wanted after two long seasons on Svalbard.

2: He gave life to the famous quote from Helge Ingstad's book. He said this shortly after coming back to a city, after spending a year in the wilderness alone. "No, i'm going back up to the ice soon, i feel lonely here, surrounded by all these people."
